Ultimate Micro Shop

This is a tour of my garage micro shop on wheels. It is an introduction to my design concept and an invitation to collaborate as I build/develop a super-efficient micro shop that maximizes the use of bench-top tools.
This is my first ever YouTube video…or published recording ever so please bear with my less than efficient editing, cropping, etc. I've tried to maximize the description and keep it to around 10:00 minutes total. I will continue to document the shop as it develops and post updates as each machine is added to the bench!…I hope you enjoy!

Design Concept, Intent/Goals:
* Affordable
* Must be easily disassembled
* ~4'x8' usable workbench top
* must roll/fit into a garage bay
* Must fit into moving crates when disassembled
* Integrated storage for tools near where they will be used
* Outfeed for table saw must support 4×8' sheet of plywood both for length cuts and width cuts
* Must have shared support surfaces with minimal interferences for all machines
* Maximize shop workflow efficiency
*integrated dust collection
*sanding area
*assembly area
*Built as a basic frame assembly that can be modified/improved easily over time
* Bench must support 1000#
*all machines/tools permanently fixed or usable within one minute

  1. Interesting, would like to have seen your end result, but so far your
    verbal plan is good

    Lynard,
    Thanks for the interest! it’s still a work in progress and I’m only posting
    videos in my spare time. Please check out my updated shop tour or
    http://www.instagram.com/benchtoptools to see a more up to date version. I’m
    actually in the shop hard wiring my bench today, so more videos soon!

    I have spent months investigating diy table saws and found a great resource
    at Wilfs wood blueprint (google it if you’re interested)

    Georgios Antonopoulos, thanks for the tip I’m checking it out! Paoson’s
    woodworking is one of my favorite channels, he built virtually every
    machine in his shop. If you like, his channel is one of my featured
    channels.

    Bravo!!! I thought your video was great. You think like I think when it
    comes to design and efficiency. Very cool and you gave me some great design
    ideas! Much appreciated. Keep up the work when you can I’m excited to see
    it finished.

  11. Which shipping crate biz has only 40 inch containers that you needed to fit
    into? I’m also building a 40 in bench for power tools but to fit through a
    42 in yard gate limitation.

    C Puzz,
    when I was getting ready to start the design I was struggling to remember
    the dimensions from my previous move so I called a local mover in GA and
    asked the largest width and 40″ was their suggestion. I’m fairly certain
    they used non-standard 5’x9′ plywood to build the crates, but didn’t want
    to make it too wide. I have items that stick out beyond my bench on all
    sides now, so I’m hoping the movers don’t crate it. when the time comes
    again, I’ll do a move video. Thanks for asking!

  13. What app or program did you use to design your work bench plans?

  14. Christopher Harpster

    Nik Oscar, I used Google Sketchup.

  15. Christopher Harpster Thank You.
